Afandou is one of the oldest villages on Rhodes, with a history that stretches back to ancient times. The name is believed to derive from the Greek word “afandos” (invisible), referring to the hidden springs and lush vegetation that once made the area a secret paradise for travelers. During the Byzantine and Ottoman periods, Afandou was known for its fertile valleys and production of olive oil and wine.
