The Acropolis of Lindos is the second-most visited archaeological site in Greece, and for good reason. Situated on a sheer rock face 116 meters above the modern village, this ancient citadel was a key religious and military center for centuries. The site has been fortified since the Archaic period, but the most visible ruins today date from the time of the Knights of St. John, who built a massive castle around the older temple of Athena Lindia.
