Mandraki Harbour is the main commercial and tourist port of Rhodes Town, steeped in ancient history and myth. It is famously believed to be the site where the legendary Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, once straddled the harbor entrance. While modern scholars debate this, the idea still captures the imagination. Today, the harbor is a bustling hub of activity, lined with yachts, fishing boats, and excursion vessels.
Two of the most recognized landmarks of Rhodes stand at the harbor's entrance: the fortresses of St. Nicholas and the two columns topped with bronze deer. The deer, a male and a female, are the emblem of the city and are said to mark the spot where the Colossus might have stood. From the harbor, you have a magnificent view of the imposing walls of the Old Town, including the picturesque windmills along the pier. The area is also a prime spot for a stroll, especially at sunset when the sky turns into a canvas of colors.
The harbor is also the starting point for many boat trips to nearby islands and along the coast, as well as for diving excursions. It is surrounded by cafes, restaurants, and shops, making it a vibrant area day and night.
